Renowned history professor Siyan Oyeweso has died – Tribune Online

A prominent Professor of History and leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Professor Siyan Oyeweso, has passed away after a brief illness.

Governor Adeleke’s Special Assistant on Digital Media, Azeez Badmus, announced the development while sharing the news on X (formerly Twitter).

Badmus commiserated with the family of the deceased and expressed sadness over the loss.

He wrote: “Rest in power, Professor Siyan Oyeweso, an illustrious son of Ede, Osun State and Nigeria. What a sad loss!”

Meanwhile, in a statement, the younger brother of the deceased, Olawale Oyeweso, confirmed the death of the renowned scholar.

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear father and brother, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Council of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Professor Abdulgafar Siyan Oyeweso, who departed this life on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at the age of 64 after a brief illness,” he stated.

“Abdulgafar Siyan Oyeweso, a renowned History professor, educator and mentor, influenced the lives of countless students, colleagues and political associates, among others.

“He is survived by his wife, children and other family members.”

According to the family, his remains will be buried in his hometown, Ede, today at 4 pm after Solat Asr.

“May Allah grant him Aljannah Firdaus and comfort his family and loved ones during this difficult time,” the statement added.
