Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has described the recent rise in banditry and kidnappings in some parts of the state as “new and strange”, assuring residents that his administration is taking decisive steps to end the threats.
Governor Yusuf made these remarks on Tuesday during a visit to Tsanyawa town, where he met with troops of the Joint Task Force currently combating insecurity in several communities.
“Insecurity challenges are something new and strange that has just been observed here in the state,” the governor said.
. “By the grace of Allah, we will do whatever it takes to nip them in the bud, especially the activities of these bandits, kidnappers and others.”
He noted that criminals have been targeting vulnerable communities, particularly in Tsanyawa and Shanono local government areas where several residents have been killed or kidnapped.
“Many innocent lives were taken. Many innocent people were also sent to the bush. We want to assure you that Insha Allah, those who were kidnapped will be returned to their families,” Yusuf said.
The governor explained that his visit was aimed at assessing the security situation first-hand and boosting the morale of troops stationed in the affected areas.
“We are also here to encourage and motivate you to do your best,” he told the troops. “I assure you that the government, along with all security agencies, is here to support you.
“We will continue to do what is necessary, ensuring his well-being and making sure he is well cared for.”
Earlier, the Brigade Commander of the Third Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Kano, Brigadier AM Tukur, briefed the governor on the operations of the troops.
He said troops are monitoring vulnerable locations, including Yanchibi and Yanganau, which have witnessed increased security threats in recent days.
“It is a great privilege for us to have your presence this morning,” Tukur said. “The troops are very happy to see the Executive Governor alone.”
The governor’s visit comes amid growing concerns about security in rural communities, with assurances from the state government that efforts are being made to restore peace and protect residents.
