No less than 300 residents of Ibadan benefited from the free eye detection program organized by the Rotary Club of Ibadan in association with the Eleta Eye Institute, Ibadan.
While 100 beneficiaries of ocular detection are scheduled for free surgery on Friday, June 20.
According to the president of the club, Abiodun Ajayi, the exercise was in line with the Rotary club mission to give back to the community through medical programs.
“More than 100 surgeries are being programmed next week at Eleta Eye Institute, Ibadan.
“Rotary Club of Ibadan in association with Eye Institute will offer more than 100 surgeries in Ibadan for disadvantaged patients
“Rotary International is about humanity service, we have seven focus areas whose community is one of them, community service, so today, what we are having is a free eye evaluation and free surgery for Ibadan residents.
“Here there is another free eye exam, today we would be doing a free -eyed detection and we would also give drugs and glasses to the beneficiaries, while some will be scheduled for surgery,” Ajayi said.
Also speaking, the president of the Free Eye Surgery Project Planning Committee of the Club, Micheal Ajao, said that the goal of Rotary Club is to play lives as much as possible, and added that the free ocular detection and surgery of the club is one of its projects for the year.
He said: “The project is one of the ways in which the club responds to the needs of the community, because as we all know that many people have eye problems that require eye surgeries, but they cannot afford it, so this is one of our various interventions in the Rotary Club of Ibadan through the free ocular surgery offering for many in the community that needed it.”
In a conversation with journalists, one of the beneficiaries, Oluwatobiloba Jemiyo praised the club for the gesture.
Jemiyo, who has been scheduled for surgery after going through an eye test, said he hopes to regain his view after surgery.
Also talking with journalists, another beneficiary of the initiative, Victoria Egbewusi also appreciated the club for organizing free eyes.
