Nigeria's student Christian movement (SCM) has lamented the terrible deprivation of the religious rights of Christian students in the north and throughout the country.
This protest was communicated through a statement issued and signed by the National Secretary of SCM, Mr. Isuosuo Okeoghene, and the president of the Communicé Committee, Dr. Orekyeh Emeka, at the end of his 85th anniversary and 33rd National Biennial Conference. The event, with the theme “Restore: rebuild, renew and restore”, extracted from Isaiah 58: 6-12, was held between April 17 and 21 in Bariga, state of lakes.
Reversing the concerns raised by the movement on the issue of insecurity, particularly the murder of Christians in the states of Benue and Plateau, the statement declared: “SCM observes with consternation the palpable insecurity in Nigeria, particularly the inexorous murders of the Nigerians (especially Christians) in the states of Benue and the plateau. Organizations and individuals have not been encouraging.
“On the subject of a fast Ramadan holidays for public and private schools in some northern states, which affect both Muslim students and non -Muslims, SCM observes with consternation the recent arbitrary closure of public and private schools in some northern states (for example, Bauchi, Jigawa, Kano) in the name of Ramadan's fasting in a country that is a country that is a country that is a country. “However, we believe that it is totally inappropriate, insensitive and a total breach of the constitutional, educational and children problem).
In addition, the movement condemned the overwhelming abduction, conversion and marriage of Christian girls in some northern states, citing the case of kidnapping, blunt conversion and blunt marriage in the state of Niger's sister, MarÃa Ishaya, a beautiful Shuaibu Nasco as an example. SCM denounced that, despite informing this situation to relevant government agencies, no measures were taken.
Meanwhile, addressing the denial of the rights of Christian students to gather and maintain peacefully in schools, the movement revealed that in some secondary and tertiary institutions in Nigeria, Christian students are denied the opportunity to gather and peacefully practice their faith.
“We believe that this is not together with the laws of our nation, which guarantees the fundamental rights of citizens (including students) to practice their faith anywhere in Nigeria.
“Therefore, we urge federal and state governments and the management of educational institutions to kindly allow Christian students to celebrate their in -line scholarship meetings with guidelines according to the administration of schools in accordance with the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
SCM also accused President Bola Tinubu and security agencies to take more decisive actions and be more proactive to ensure the lives and properties of all Nigerians.
The movement also praised the Federal Government under the leadership of President Tinubu for articulating and implementing several policies that support the empowerment of business and youth. These policies have seen many young people involved in productive activities, citing the student loan scheme, which has rescued many homeless Nigerian students, as one of many.
SCM praised the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), the Pentecostal community of Nigeria (PFN) and all the church leaders in Nigeria who have been implacable by lending their voices to issues of national importance and in defense of the body of Christ.
According to the statement, SCM was founded by Dr. Francis Akanu Ibiam and Chief Theophilus O. Ejiwumi in 1940 as the Nigerian arm of the Nigerian Student Christian Federation (WSCF), based in Geneva, Switzerland.
The SCM is an organization based on faith, ecumenical in Outlook, and focuses their strengths on raising young people and pious students for social transformation. The student Christian movement also works to build pious men and women who are at the forefront of dismantling social vices that hinder social progress.
