The Governing Council of the Faculty of Education of the State of Oyo has suspended the president of the Government of the Union of Students of the institution, Muhammad Olaitan.
Olaitan was suspended for leading a protest at the institution, school officials reveal.
DAILY POST reported that Olaitán had led the students of the institution against school management in October of this year.
The Governing Council, however, said that Olaitan is suspended for only one semester for leading the protest against the institution.
The council said it established an investigative panel to examine the role played by the SUG chairman during the protest.
The council noted that the panel found Olaitan guilty.
The council also asked each student from the institution to pay N10,000 as reparations for damage caused to the university’s property during the student’s demonstration.
A letter obtained by DAILY POST, signed by the university’s acting registrar, M.O. Abioye and addressed to Olaitan, announced the suspension and repair fee of N10,000 imposed on the students.
“You will remember that he appeared before the investigation panel that was created by the Governing Council to explain the role he played in the violent student demonstration that took place on Friday, November 6 and Monday, November 9, 2020.
“Since then, the panel has presented its preliminary report.
“During deliberation and consideration of the report, the council approved the recommendation of the panel that found him guilty of active participation in the wanton destruction of College property.
“To this end, the council has ordered that it be suspended for one semester, that is, the second semester of the 2019/2020 academic session.
“He is expected to learn a lesson about keeping the peace and refraining from violating the oath of good conduct he signed during his registration ceremony.”
