A renewed support statement for President Bola Tinubu by a former unconditional of the now disappeared Congress for progressive change (CPC) has caused a public speech.
While political backups are common, the current wave of difficulties faced by common Nigerians demands more than the great policy, requires significant commitment and shocking solutions.
The Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), established in 2010, was a key player in the 2013 fusion that gave birth to the Congress of all progressives (APC), the ruling party that led President Tinubu to power. Despite its dissolution, the ideological foundations of the CPC continue to influence Nigeria's political framework. However, the recent sample of loyalty for an old CPC figure has raised its eyebrows, especially in the context of Nigeria's current struggles.
“The support must go beyond the statements,” said Abayomi Nurain Mumuni, DBA, PHD, former candidate for Governor of the CPC in the state of Lagos and a member of the APC Security Committee during the 2023 elections.
“We must offer practical solutions to relieve people's burdens. Political alignment must be about ideas, not mere symbolism.”
Mumuni's comments arrive at a time when many Nigerians support unprecedented economic difficulties, marked by the increase in inflation, generalized unemployment and persistent insecurity fed by insurgency and crime.
“In a nation where citizens barely survive, political actors, whether holders or previous ones, are aware of how their actions are perceived,” he said.
“The endorsements should not be disconnected from the reality of the masses.”
He urged that support for the president must include strategic efforts of economic reactivation, such as empowering local companies, attracting genuine foreign investments and guaranteeing employment creation schemes that are sustainable.
When addressing insecurity, he proposed a change towards the collaboration of intelligence, community surveillance and grassroots participation.
He also requested expanded social welfare policies, including food security programs and affordable medical care, and emphasized the importance of infrastructure development to stimulate growth in sectors such as transport, energy and technology.
In addition, Mumuni stressed the importance of listening to people facilitating public forums and civic commitment to rebuild trust and shape inclusive policies.
Mumuni's intervention is a reminder that political expression must translate into receptive governance. While loyalty is recognized to President Tinubu, the approach, he insisted, must change personal loyalty to national progress.
“Our loyalty should be reflected in our solutions, not only in our slogans,” he concluded. “If we are really committed to the success of President Tinubu, we must be by his side with ideas and actions that raise Nigeria.”
