TAJBank Limited, Nigeria’s largest interest-free bank by asset base and provision of innovative products and services, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) on the Hajj Savings Scheme (HSS) in support of its ethical banking campaign to support worthy causes in the sustainable development of Nigeria.
The Managing Director/CEO of TAJBank Limited, Mr. Hamid Joda, who spoke about the pact over the weekend during a virtual interaction with journalists, maintained that the pact would enable TAJBank to further expand the boundaries of its socio-economic interventions to aspiring pilgrims across the country, particularly at a time when airfares are increasing and potential pilgrims are finding it difficult to cope with the rising costs of pilgrimage.
He enthused: “Let me say that the MoU with NAHCON on the Hajj Savings Scheme (HSS) aligns with our mission of supporting those in need in Nigeria. Therefore, with this agreement, TAJBank will explore its strong digital platforms and physical networks in our branches to bring HSS to the grassroots and enable pilgrims to conveniently access funds for their travels.
“We will take advantage of the opportunity created by our partnership with NAHCON to demonstrate to Muslims who intend to perform Hajj to consider TAJBank as their preferred choice among other lenders, as we will offer them a truly seamless and ethically based savings avenue and technologically advanced savings solutions, based on the principles of Islamic finance to ensure that pilgrims enjoy the Hajj without problems and benefit from our relationship with them in a sustainable way.”
During the MoU signing ceremony, NAHCON President Prof. Abdullahi Saleh Usman noted that the HSS had created a structured pathway for pilgrims in the country, recalling that in the past, many prospective pilgrims were eager to enroll but were limited by inadequate knowledge of funding.
