The Chinese embassy in Nigeria has organized a film projection to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese people’s resistance war against Japanese aggression and the world anti-fascist war, with renewed called to peace, unity and multilateral cooperation.
Speaking at the event, the Chinese ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Yu Dunhai, explained that the anniversary serves as a solemn memory of history and a renewed call to safeguard peace.
He recalled the atrocities committed during the Japanese invasion of China, including the 1937 Nanjing massacre, in which more than 300,000 civilians and soldiers were killed.
He described it as “one of the darkest chapters of modern history and a deep and lasting pain in the hearts of the Chinese people.”

The outstanding film, Dead to Rights, was inspired by these tragic events, offering the public the opportunity to reflect on history and its lasting lessons.
Yu pointed out the role of China as the main oriental battlefield of World War II, noting that at the expense of more than 35 million lives and more than $ 600 billion in economic losses, China gave birth decisive to Japanese fascism, slowing its expansion and significantly contributing to peace and global order.
“Let the story be our guide. We preserve, with an unwavering resolution, the results won strongly from World War II. Together, we direct the global order towards a future defined by equity, justice and equality for all,” Yu said.
He also emphasized that China and Nigeria, such as the main nations in development and the main voices of the Global South, share the responsibility of safeguarding the results of the war, defending the UN letter and advancing in global justice.
Also speaking at the event, Mr. Lawal Sale, Analyst of Public Affairs and editor of Global South Focus News Online, described commemoration as emotional and instructive.
He recalled the Nanjing massacre, noting that Japan has not yet formally recognized the responsibility of atrocity.
“The resilience that the Chinese people showed during that war demonstrated their strength as a nation. China today is a testimony of that spirit of unity and perseverance,” he said.
Drawing lessons for Nigeria, he urged citizens to adopt unity as a basis for the National Force.
“The Chinese won because they saw themselves as a Chinese nation. The Nigerians should also see ourselves as one people, not northern, southern or oriental, but a Nigerian nation,” he added.
The sale further praised the Peace -oriented Foreign Policy of China, emphasizing that it has constantly supported peace maintenance efforts while avoiding the supply of weapons or the instigation of wars.
He pointed to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), co -founded by China and Russia, as an example of China’s leadership in the promotion of international security and cooperation.
“China is the number one peacemaker in the world. Wherever there is conflict, China’s role has been to promote peace and stability. This is a lesson that the global south must adopt,” he added, “he added.
