The House of the Oyo State Assembly has asked the government executive arm to take deliberate and urgent measures to expand computer knowledge among students in public schools throughout the State.
This followed the adoption of a motion sponsored by the minority leader, the Hon. WA Salami, during Plenary.
The motion pointed out that computer literacy has become a fundamental requirement in modern education, improving interactive learning and the best academic results.
However, many public school students, especially in unattended areas such as Oke-Gun, Ibarapa and Oyo parts still lack access to digital education, which puts them at a disadvantage in computer-based tests (TCC), such as the unified tertiary registration exam (UTME) performed by Jamb.
Despite being academically solid, a significant number of students has failed to ensure university admission due to the low performance of TCC, often caused by lack of familiarity with basic computer operations.
In response, the Chamber urged the Government to intensify efforts to improve digital education in public schools, including the establishment of computer rooms, equip them with the necessary accessories and integrate computer training from the level of primary school.
He also asked for collaboration with Jamb to establish CTC centers in the 14 federal constituencies of the State and encouraged associations with philanthropists, NGOs and foreign donors focused on education.
The president, House of Assembly of the State of Oyo, Rt. Excmo Adebo Ogondoyin emphasized the urgency of joining the digital gap, noting that in today’s world, digital literacy is no longer optional.
He stressed that students should be equipped with the skills required to compete and succeed in a society driven by technology.
The speaker added that it was inclusive for the state government to prioritize inclusive computer education as a tool for academic success and long -term development.
