Seplat Energy says that domestic gas remains the engine of prosperity for Nigeria and Africa in general, from food houses, to the food industry and providing it with a cleaner alternative for kitchen and transport.
This, the company said, reported its decision to invest to a large extent in the gas processing capacity dedicated to the domestic market, including the anoh gas plant that is expected to go to the current before the end of the year.
The director, New Energy in Seplat, Mr. Okechukwu MBA, said this at the 2025 African Energy Week that was held in Cape Town, South Africa.
MBA, who spoke during a discussion panel entitled “Beyond exports: the development of commercially viable domestic gase markets,” he said that interested parties must ensure that the challenges in the gas value chain to power of the molecules in the head of well to the electrons in the homes are addressed so that Nigeria realizes the objective of a greater supply of energy to the Nigerians.
It also emphasized the importance of a commercially viable electricity sector that is essential to achieve growth in the internal gas market.
He said: “Anchor customers are needed to underpin the development of new gas projects while identifying infrastructure challenges in energy transmission and distribution, as well as liquidity crises in the electricity sector as two areas that require urgent attention to unlock new gas projects.
MBA stressed that Seplat Energy currently provides gas to five electric plants in Nigeria, which underlines its commitment to the electricity sector, noting that the gas is well positioned to provide reliable and affordable base load energy to lead to economic growth.
According to MBA, Seplat Energy adopted an integral approach to the growth of the national gase market.
“In addition to investments in pipe gas projects, Seplat is also investing in Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and Compressed Natural Gas (CNC),” he added.
In addition to the significant butane volumes now supplied to the domestic market from its NGL plant in the Bonny River terminal, Seplat Energy also intends to start the delivery of LPG from its Sapele and Anah gas plants before the end of the year.
This, MBA said, would make Sepat’s skin one of the main LPG suppliers, displacing biomass and provides a cleaner cooking fuel that will improve the health and living conditions of Nigerians.
He added that Seplat Energy investment in CNC was to make gas available for customers who are currently not connected to the National Gas Pipeline Network.
The new Chief of Energy in Seplat stated that the company plans to carry its production of operated gas to more than 1 BCF/D by 2030, while indicating that the recent incentives granted by the Government to the gas sector will help the achievement of this objective.
In a related development, the Director of External Affairs and Social Performance, Seplat Energy, Chioma AFE, which appeared in a discussion panel called “Bureaucracy or Bridge? Concognition of Global ESG approaches to African realities,” he said in all the company’s movements to boost access to reliable and affordable energy for Nigerians, the foundations of ES are firm and practical.
According to her, the peculiarities of the Nigerian people and Africa in general remain very relevant in the implementation of the SGA Energy frame and affirming their commitments.
