The Executive Secretary, Emergency Management Agency of the State of YOBE, Dr. Mohammed Goje, has declared that the withdrawal of funds from the International Development Agency (USAID) left a great gap in the humanitarian response in the state of Yobe.
Mohammed, who spoke exclusively with Tribune online On Friday, he said that most partners who complement government efforts are now having limited resources.
However, he pointed out that the government would not rest in its oars to fill the void due to the fact that it is its main responsibility to support and finance.
“With the withdrawal of USAID funds, most of our partners who have referred to complementing government efforts have limited resources to support the ongoing response.
“But, of course, we did an analysis and there was a great gap to fill due to the withdrawal of the USAID funds.
“Fortunately, there are some funds through an international development partner. Even in that, the main objective of supporting and financing lies with the government.
“When observing our analysis, the government is analyzing how to close the gap in terms of health, support and other components of humanitarian responses,” he said.
Speaking about his advances by becoming the agency leader, Goje said that the reform to be promoted by data embarked to have assumed the position in 2019.
He pointed out that the data is not negotiable when they face natural conflicts and man -manufactured.
“Before my appointment, I was Clinton Health’s development worker, managing Bill and Melinda Gates subsidies in the state of Yobe.
“When I took charge in 2019, the first thing I did was reform the agency to be promoted by the data.
“When faced with conflicts made by man and as the insurgency of Boko Haram, floods, fire and repatriation of internal displaced people who are in the camps, must be repositioned to work with data.
“Then, I began to reposition the agency to be driven by the data to ensure that we have reliable data with which we can work,” he said.
