Those planning to rig Abia elections should first write their wills – Governor Otti – Tribune Online

Abia State Governor Alex Otti has warned politicians planning to rig the 2027 gubernatorial election to abandon such plans, saying the will of God and the people will decide the outcome.

The governor spoke on Thursday during the October edition of ‘Alex Otti Speaks to Abians’ at Government House, Umuahia. The session was shared on Channels Television’s YouTube page.

Otti said that while he has no problem with anyone running, those who conspire to rig the election should be prepared to face the consequences.

“I’ve heard some people around you say that you should take charge of this state, you should write the results, but the only advice I have for them is that if you really want to write the results, you should write something else before then. Do you know what it is? Your will,” Otti said.

He made the remarks in response to a question on recent statements attributed to the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, who reportedly said that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would take over Abia in 2027.

Otti’s warning comes amid the first political permutations ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial election. The Labor Party governor ended more than two decades of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) dominance in the state after his victory in the 2023 elections.
