The Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC) has commenced preparations for the conduct of the 2026 local government elections with a promise to ensure transparency in the exercise.
The inauguration began with the stakeholder engagement held in Lokoja on Friday, chaired by the President of KOSIEC, Mr. Maman Nda Eri.
Eri, in his welcome speech, said that the stakeholder meeting was organized to announce the activities involved in holding the elections in order to achieve the desired success in registering a free, fair, credible and inclusive exit.
Eri also assured that KOSIEC would not relent in embarking on a transparency exercise that would reflect the will of the people during the 2026 local government elections.
According to the Commission President, “KOSIEC remains committed to transparency that will provide a level playing field for all political gladiators and their parties.
This stakeholder meeting will give us the opportunity to showcase the new electoral law of 2025 that will guide us in conducting the elections.
“This meeting is sacrosanct so that all interested parties have a say in establishing the election schedule.
“Stakeholders should, of necessity, begin to sensitize our citizens about the new electoral law and the value of the electoral process in general, as well as the need for voters to turn out in large numbers to exercise their right to vote.
“Our meeting should primarily focus on the review of the Electoral Framework, the New Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission Act, 2025, and the role of stakeholders.
“Participating stakeholders came from all political parties, security agencies, civil society organizations and media”.
