Traffic criminals for the first time and repeated will pay from now on between N20,000, N200,000 fines as corresponding to the crime committed in the state of Oyo.
The president of the Oyo State Traffic Management Authority (Oyrtma) announced this during a meeting with zonal commanders at its headquarters in Ibadan.
He attributed the ascending reviews of the fines for several crimes as a measure to instill the discipline in the road users so as not to generate income.
He said: “The essence of Oyrtma was not to generate internal income, but to safeguard the lives and property of people throughout the state and guarantee a traffic flow without problems.
Oyrtma is more concerned with the safety of road users, hence the introduction of more rigid measures.
In his breakdown of the newly approved fines, the president said that driving a motorcycle or tricycle without a license will attract a fine of ₦ 25,000, while not painting a motorcycle or commercial tricycle in the approved colors will attract ₦ 20,000 for a criminal for the first time and ₦ 30,000 for repeated criminals.
“Driving in a forbidden direction will attract ₦ 100,000 for a criminal for the first time and ₦ 200,000 for a repeated criminal. Not parking in the designated motor parks will attract ₦ 20,000 for a first crime and ₦ 30,000 for later crimes,” said Adesagba.
Adesagba also threatened that any of his officers caught collecting bribes or that he behaved badly while he is on service would be sanctioned accordingly.
In another development, a Badcess, Abolade Salami and Babatunde Hamzat, based in Ibadan, and Babatunde Hamzat have been designated as Oyrtma marshal.
