Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have successfully repelled a coordinated attack by ISWAP terrorists on a Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Mairari, dealing a decisive blow to the group’s operational capability in the area.
This was contained in a statement made available to defense correspondents in Abuja on Sunday by the Media Information Officer of Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba.
According to the statement, the assault, which began late on December 12, 2025 and continued until the early hours of December 13, was foiled through coordinated ground and air operations.
He explained that during the attack, terrorists attempted to break into the base using two vehicle-borne improvised explosive devices (VBIEDs).
According to It, “both devices were quickly detected and neutralized by troops, preventing any penetration into the base. CCTV footage and field observations confirmed that several terrorists were killed, while others suffered serious injuries as surviving elements evacuated their dead and wounded.”
He added that following the failed assault, OPHK troops from Sector 3, supported by the Theater Command Quick Reaction Group, the Nigerian Police Team and the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), carried out extensive exploitation of the area.
He stated that the operation led to the discovery of multiple terrorist victims and the seizure of weapons, ammunition and logistics abandoned during their retreat.
He further explained that the items recovered included AK-47 rifles, magazines and ammunition, PKT bullets, hand grenades, motorcycles, communication devices, combat equipment, medical supplies and other materials indicative of sustained terrorist operations.
He stated that the recovered items further degraded the operational capabilities of the terrorists and denied them freedom of action in the area.
According to It, the two neutralized VBIEDs were destroyed by OPHK defensive fire, causing damage at two points along the road. Importantly, there was no violation of the FOB, which highlights the preparation, vigilance and resilience of the troops.
He further explained that troops are conducting aggressive patrols in the area to prevent further terrorist activities and reassure local communities of the continued security presence.
He stated that the troops remained resolute in their commitment to decisively defeat all terrorist elements and restore lasting peace and stability across the North East and that the failed attack in Mairari underlined the operational readiness and professionalism of our men and women in uniform.
