A fire caused by a sudden gas explosion on Sunday consumed a three-room apartment building in Asa Local Government Area of ​​Kwara State.

The incident occurred at around 4:27 p.m., in Temidere community, Reke, Asa Local Government Area of ​​the state.

According to the spokesperson for the state fire service, Hassan Adekunle, it was a building made up of three-bedroom homes, all of which were affected by the fire after a sudden gas explosion.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the incident was caused by a gas leak, which led to the explosion and subsequent fire.

Hassan said firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and carried out containment operations to prevent further escalation within the community.

The director of the state fire service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, advised residents to take extreme caution in the use of gas.

He highlighted the importance of regular inspection of gas cylinders, hoses and regulators, urging users to ensure adequate ventilation, avoid using defective or expired gas equipment and immediately cut off the gas supply when a leak is suspected.

The director emphasized that compliance with basic gas safety practices is essential to prevent explosions and property loss.
