The president of the United States, Donald Trump, on Saturday, said he is thinking of revoking the citizens of the actor and comedian Rosie O'Donnell, his frequent critic.
However, there is no clear legal way to do that.
The statement is part of Trump's broader actions around citizens. He has pressed for mass deportations and floated rescue citizens for some children of immigrants. But his latest comments about O'Donnell, who was born in New York, mark a new type of threat.
“Due to the fact that Rosie O'Donnell is not the best for our great country, I am seriously considering to remove his citizenship. It is a threat to humanity and should remain in the wonderful country in Ireland, if they want it. God bless the United States!” Trump wrote in Truth Social.
Meanwhile, O'Donnell currently lives in Ireland, where he moved to follow Trump's second coming to the White House.
The White House has not said if Trump took the threat seriously or how it would follow it, especially because there is no established legal way to strip a natural citizen of his citizenship.
Trump has taken measures during his time in office to limit how people become citizens and have also investigated ways to revoke citizens in some cases.

He has also questioned the state of other public figures, such as the mayor of New York City, Zohran Mamdani, who became an American citizen through naturalization.
After the threat of the president of the United States, O'Donnell responded to Trump's post, accusing him of trying to silence the people who oppose him.
“The president of the United States has always hated the fact that I see him for what he is, a criminal scammer who abuses a liar to harm our nation himself, that is why I moved to Ireland,” O'Donnell said on Instagram, calling Trump “an old and dangerous man without soul with dementia that lacks compassion for empathy and basic humanity.”
The dispute between Trump and O'Donnell dates back to 2006, when he criticized him during an episode of the view. Trump replied by calling her “a woman out of control.”
His clashes continued when Trump entered politics. During a 2015 Republican debate, moderator Megyn Kelly asked about calling women as “fat pigs, dogs, lobes and disgusting animals.” Trump replied: “Only Rosie O'Donnell.”
During Trump's presidency, O'Donnell said he was concerned with his mandate. After being chosen again last year, she moved abroad.
She and her 12 -year -old son moved to Ireland in January. In a Tiktok video published in March, he said: “When it is certain that all citizens have the same rights there in the United States, it is when we will consider returning,” and added that he was working to obtain Irish citizenship through their grandparents.
Even after moving, O'Donnell has remained active in US political conversations. Last week, he blamed Trump for recent sudden floods in Texas.
“When the president destroys all early alert systems and government weathering forecast skills, these are the results that we will begin to see daily,” he said in Tiktok.
