We will fight corruption according to the law: ICPC president

The Chairman of the Independent Commission on Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses (ICPC), Musa Aliyu, said the commission would not fight corruption in the country according to the law.

Aliyu, a senior Nigerian advocate, made the pledge during a courtesy visit by a delegation of the Civil Society Legislative Center (CISLAC) to the ICPC headquarters in Abuja on Monday.

The newly appointed ICPC chairman said his agency would continue to live honestly and run a responsible organization that would work within the confines of the law to address corruption in Nigeria.

“As ICPC Chairman, I have told Nigerians that we will work within the confines of the law.

“And also in line with national best practice to ensure that we address this challenge of corruption in this country.

“We are determined to ensure that we promote good ethical justice and also run a responsible organization that is efficient in its objectives and responsibility.

“We will continue to maintain the reputation and integrity for which the ICPC is known and we will not tolerate any corruption within the commission.

“Whatever we’re going to do, we’re going to make sure we do it logically,” he said.

The ICPC chief also stressed the role of civil society organizations like CISLAC in the fight against corruption, saying they had kept agencies like the ICPC on their toes through constant demands for transparency and accountability.

He pledged that ICPC will continue to sustain its collaborative efforts with CSOs through many of its initiatives, including Constituency and Executive Project Tracking Initiatives (CEPTI), Systems Studies and Review and others.

Earlier, CISLAC Executive Director Auwal Rafsanjani said the visit was aimed at rekindling the partnership that exists between the center and ICPC.

According to Rafsanjani, CISLAC will continue to partner with the ICPC, “to support the good work they are doing and support their leadership to ensure that we minimize the cost of corruption in Nigeria.” (YAYA)
