The president of the United States, Donald Trump, said he did not want the mayor of London, Sir Sadiq Khan, be the state banquet organized by the king in Windsor’s castle because he considers it “among the worst mayors of the world.”
Speaking to journalists on Air Force One when he returned to the United States from his trip to the United Kingdom, Trump said: “I asked him not to be there. I wanted to be there, as I understand, I didn’t want it.” He accused the mayor of failing about immigration and crime, saying: “The crime in London is in the clouds.”
According to BBC, Khan did not attend the banquet and did not look for or expect an invitation.
The row is the last in its dispute, which goes back to 2015 when Sir Sadiq criticized Trump’s call to prohibit Muslims from traveling to the United States.
Since then, Trump has labeled it with “a stone loser” and an “unpleasant person”, while the mayor accused him of stirring the extreme right policy.
A source close to Sir Sadiq dismissed Trump’s latest comments, saying: “Trump’s policy is fear and division. This includes talking in our great capital city. London is a history of global success: it is open, dynamic and safer than the main US cities. Perhaps that is one of the reasons why the record numbers of Americans choose to make London their home.”
During Trump’s first state visit in 2019, Sir Sadiq approved the plans to fly an “Trump Baby” airs on the city. His second visit, unusual for one not retained, was marked by official ceremonies, but also mass protests, with thousands of gathering in Parliament.
Tribune online The reports that four men were arrested after the images of Trump and Jeffrey Epstein were projected in Windsor Castle before the banquet.
