A former president of the Democratic Party of the Peoples (PDP) in the state of Lagos, the retired captain Tunji Shelle, along with other unconditional party, officially resigned from the PDP and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing “indisciplins and endless chisers” in its former party.

Speaking to Nan, Shelle said the dropout was promoted by frustration with PDP leadership.

I do not like that they submit to such ridicule,” he said, accusing Wike of working for the ruler Congress of all the progressive (APC) while continuing to claim PDP membership.
Shelle also expressed his confidence in ADC’s leadership, emphasizing the party’s ability to challenge APC in 2027. “ADC has everything necessary to save the situation in Nigeria and give people the country of their dream. There is no distraction in ADC.
“Party leaders are no people that no one can buy,” he added, urging the Nigerians to join the movement. “People are behind us; we are not fighting the battle alone. With the Nigerians behind us, ADC will definitely make a difference.”
Other deserters echoed Shelle’s feelings. Owokoniran said: “The PDP is gone, there is nothing there. ADC is the only opportunity to challenge the ruling APC.”
Tai Benedict hinted that more PDP leaders were preparing to join ADC, saying: “We are emptying the members of the PDP in the state of Lagos in ADC. Others are on their way; they want to take their last dinner before coming.”
Chief Niyi Adams, a former youth leader of the PDP of the state of Lagos, said that more than 5,000 PDP members had defected ADC in the 20 local governments in Lagos.
He added that deserters would work tirelessly to guarantee the success of ADC in the 2027 general elections.
Shelle concluded that the persistent internal crises of the PDP were unlikely, even with the next November National Convention.
“We decided to move to a party that is strong, focused and capable of making a real difference,” he said.
