The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Zamfara State has urged the Northern elite and prominent figures to establish a Northern Nigeria Security Committee for the region.
The call was made on Friday afternoon by Haliru Andi, PDP Publicity Secretary in Zamfara State, while speaking to journalists in Gusau, the state capital.
He called on notable personalities from Northern Nigeria to form this committee to effectively eliminate all forms of criminal activity within the region.
“As a stakeholder, I wish to make a passionate appeal to the people of Northern Nigeria, Northern Governors, Northern Emirs, Northern Elders Forum, stakeholders, NGOs, women organisations, youth organizations and all well meaning people to come together and establish a Committee on Insecurity in Northern Nigeria.”
“I propose that Governor Dauda Lawal, Executive Governor of Zamfara State, be appointed to head this committee. Governor Lawal’s recent position paper on insecurity in northern Nigeria, presented at the Northern Governors Forum and Northern Emirs meeting in Kaduna, shows his experience and vision on this critical issue.”
“His clear stance against dealing with bandits, coupled with his effective policies and achievements in Zamfara State, make him the ideal candidate to lead this effort.”
He maintained that when people have an important job to do, they find a person capable of doing it, adding that “Governor Dauda Lawal has been tested and trusted.”
According to him, once created, the committee will chart a new course in the fight against banditry and insecurity in our region.
“Let us unite behind this initiative and support Governor Lawal’s leadership in the fight against insecurity in northern Nigeria.” He concluded.
