Governor Babagana Zulum, Governor of Borno State

By Ndahi Marama, Maiduguri

Borno Governor Professor Babagana Umara Zulum was at the Niger Delta Power Holding Company headquarters to make a passionate request for the extension of the 132 Kilovolt power line from Maiduguri to Dikwa and Mars.

The Governor was received by the company’s senior management, led by Managing Director / Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Chiedu Ugbo, on Wednesday afternoon in Abuja. He was accompanied by a former deputy governor of Borno, Adamu Shettima Dibal, and some government officials.

Governor Zulum, during his remarks, told NDPHC management that connecting the 132 kV line to Mars in northern Borno will power machines for irrigation activities operated by the Chad Basin Development Authority. He noted that when fully utilized, the irrigation activities of the Chad Basin have the potential to meet 30% of Nigeria’s food needs.

Zulum, who was on Mars twice this year for the resuscitation of CBDA’s irrigation team, said the resumption of activities will create thousands of direct and indirect jobs for communities and families affected by the killings and displacement of boko haram.

He also urged the NDPHC to also consider reaching Gamboru via Dikwa given the short distance between the two local government areas.
