The statement said the vehicles were seized in accordance with the law, while the suspects were subsequently charged to the relevant courts for prosecution.

Police Commissioner CP Tijjani Murtala said the operation was not targeting any individual or group but was aimed at promoting discipline among motorists, protecting lives and property and ensuring strict compliance with traffic laws.

He urged Jigawa motorists to obtain and always carry valid driver’s licenses, avoid overloading and comply with vehicle registration and roadworthiness requirements.

The police chief also warned motorists against using unauthorized tinted permits, highlighting the need for road users to drive within the limits of the law.

The command said Operation Velvet would be maintained and extended to all parts of the state, including major cities, highways, secondary roads and other strategic locations.

He further called on the public to cooperate with police personnel and other relevant agencies during the law enforcement exercise, assuring law-abiding motorists that they had nothing to fear.
