Judge Rahman Oshodi of the Sexual State of the State of Lagos and the Court of Domestic Violence have sentenced two men, Chukwuka Odinaka and Ikechukwu Eze, 10 years in prison each for the sexual assault of a 16 -year -old child.
The defendants were convicted of a modified position of two positions of indecent treatment of a child and sexual aggression, after their guilt declaration as part of an offer agreement. The case, presented by the Government of the State of Lagos, dates back to an incident in 2020 during which both men were accused of sexually violating the minor.
Originally prosecuted on November 23, 2022, for a single position of sexual assault by penetration, both Odinaka and Eze declared themselves innocent.
However, during the trial, the Prosecutor's Office presented convincing evidence, including the testimony of the brother and the victim's tutor, Jonathan Inalegwu Ousche, who was instrumental to identify and facilitate the arrest of the accused.
The victim was later derived from the International Foundation of Women at risk, Warif, for medical evaluation. A nurse from the organization, Okoi Oluchi, testified and presented a report by Dr. Makanjuola, who confirmed physical injuries consisting of forced anal penetration, including bruises and abrasions.
Given the overwhelming evidence, the defendants opted for a guilt treatment through their legal advisor, Tolulope Banjo. Consequently, the Court modified the original position, and both defendants admitted guilt.
Judge Oshodi, verifying that the plea was made voluntarily and without coercion, condemned the two men. He sentenced each of them to seven years in prison for the indecent treatment of a child and three years for sexual assault, to execute consecutively.
The Court ordered that their names enter the National Registry of Sexual Criminals, reinforcing the commitment of the Judicial Power of Lagos with the justice and protection of vulnerable persons.
