A new outbreak of ethnic violence between the communities of Jukun and TIV has exploded in the state of Taraba, with the alleged militias of Jukun throwing an early attack on the Aldea de Dekeh along the Wukari-Kente road.
According to security sources available for Zagazola Makama, the incident occurred at approximately 1:00 am on Tuesday.
Around six armed assailants broke into the town, opened fire indiscriminately and fire 15 huts. The attack forced residents to flee in panic, leaving food behind, including Ñam seedlings, which were destroyed in the fire.
A resident identified as MDUE Saaondo, suffered injuries due to the assault. He was rescued by a joint team of police and military personnel and transported to the Federal University Hospital in Wukari to receive medical treatment.
The State Police Command has launched an investigation to identify and stop those responsible. The authorities have also scheduled a security meeting with the Traditional Council of the Local Government of Wukari as part of the efforts to restore peace and encourage dialogue between the TIV and Jukun communities, which have long -standing disputes over territorial and territorial claims.
“Patrol and surveillance operations are ongoing to avoid greater violence and guarantee stability in the area,” said police authorities.
The incident adds to the growing list of violent clashes that have affected southern Taraba in recent years, underlining the urgent need for a sustainable resolution to communal tensions.
