The president of the United States, Donald Trump, described on Monday to the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, as “a good gentleman” while arguing his recent diplomatic phone call during a White House dinner with the members of the Kennedy center board.
“A good gentleman named Vladimir Putin,” Trump said, telling the exchange.
He told guests that the conversation was productive and expressed optimism about efforts to end the war between Russia and Ukraine.
“We had a good talk, and I think they are making progress,” he said.
Trump also pointed out the amazing human cost of the conflict.
“5,000 young soldiers are being killed every week on average. Can you believe 5,000 and it is actually a number probably worse than that, in addition to other people who are being killed in the cities, and we are trying to stop it, it is a bloodbath. It is an absolute blood bath,” he said.
Early in the day, he told the journalists of the Oval office that he was confident that soon he could soon be reached to a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine.
