Hundreds of young people challenged the morning downpour on Tuesday to protest the alleged invasion of their residence by agents of the Zonal Office of the Commission of Economic and Financial Crimes of Benin, EFCC, at 2 in the morning.
Daily Post reports that young people, suspected of being internet scammers, popularly called “Yahoo Yahoo Boys”, protested by the alleged harassment and intimidation of security personnel.
Young Iracios, armed with banners of several registrations to register their complaints, lamented the arrest of their colleagues, as well as the relentless harassment of young children in the state by security agencies.
The protest, however, caused traffic stagnations on the Ugbowo-Lagos road in the always occupied for several hours.
It met that during the protest, the young people attacked and destroyed a truck that is said to transmit personnel from the State Security Corps, ESC, on the Isihor axis of the road.
The young people alleged that the agents of the Anti-Injustment agency had semirally divided into the students of the students at 2 in the morning and expressed concern about their safety.
According to them, “we are angry at EFCC harassment. They go to the students of the students at midnight, arrest everyone and label them as internet scammers.
“This must stop. We call the governor on Monday Okpebholo and President Bola Tinubu to call them to order,” they said.
Meanwhile, the EFCC Authority has reinforced security around its Benin Zonal Office located on the Higher Court road in the city of Benin to avoid possible attacks.
It was observed that the operations set up a control point on the road that leads to their office, where they submitted motorists to rigorous detection.
The spokesman for the Benin Zonal Command of the EFCC, William Oseghale, could not be contacted for the comments, since the calls to his mobile line were unanswered.
