A housewife, Zaliha Shuaibu, has been arrested by the Kaduna State Police command for allegedly killing the three-month-old baby from his co-fospose when feeding it with acid in the village of Malari, located in the area of ​​the local government of the state.
The disturbing incident occurred within the family complex shared by the suspect, her husband and the baby's mother, Maryam Ibrahim, on May 13, 2025.
A statement issued by ASP Mansir Hassan, the Public Relations officer of the State Police, confirmed the incident, saying that the suspect was arrested after a rapid investigation by the Police officer of the Division in charge of the SOBA Division.
The statement explained that the problems began when Maryam left his baby alone in the room to use the bathroom, emphasizing that upon his return, he found the baby in the arms of his co-capo, Zaliha.
Hassan declared that Zaliha returned the child to Maryam, who immediately noticed that the baby was distressed, with foam leaving his mouth and a visible injury to the neck.
According to him, “the child was urgently taken to a nearby hospital in the town, but was declared dead upon arrival.”
After the incident, the statement explained that the DPO of the Division Soba quickly mobilized his team and arrested the suspect, Zaliha Shuaibu, adding that during the interrogation, he confessed to feed the baby's acid with the help of her husband's younger brother, Lawal Muhammad, who is currently underway.
According to Hassan, Zaliha confessed that it was Lawal who provided the acid used to carry out the atrocious act.
The police commissioner in the state of Kaduna, CP Rabiu Muhammad, has assured the public that it will not be left without stirring in the investigation and that all the people related to the crime will be taken to the book.
He assured that the suspect who flees would be tracked and would face all the wrath of the law.
