The Federal Competence and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has launched a new wave of market reforms, starting with a strategic commitment in the international Dawanau grain market in Kano.
When addressing merchants on Wednesday, the Vice President/Executive CEO of the FCCPC, Mr. Tunji Bello, said the commission is prioritizing the intervention at the base level to safeguard consumer rights and restore the integrity of the Nigerian market.
“Our presence here is not for the police, but to associate; guarantee that justice, transparency and quality define each transaction.” Beautiful emphasized.
The dissemination, part of the National FCCPC initiative, aims to reduce recurrent illegal practices, such as the repointed of lower quality goods such as premium brands and arbitrary price inflation.
“Unscrupulous practices like you harm everyone: the buyer, the genuine merchant and the country in general,” he said.
In response, the president of the Dawanau market development association, Alhaji Muttaqa Isa, welcomed the commitment, describing it as “a long time ago.” He averaged market cooperation by aligning with government efforts to deliver safe and affordable food to Nigerians.
“As market leaders, we take care of ensuring that what we sell reflects true value, not a hoax,” said Isa. “We will continue to sensitize our members about fair prices and product integrity. Quality is not negotiable.”
He also reiterated market preparation to work closely with regulators to end the adulteration of products and other bad practices that undermine public trust.
