After almost two years of legal procedures, a superior court sitting in Minna, the state of Niger, condemned Joy Afekafe, 16, to life imprisonment for the murder of Dr. Funmilayo Sherifat Adefolalu, professor at the Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna.
Judge Aishetu Mohammed of the Superior Court No. 4 issued the sentence on Wednesday, condemning AFEKAFE for two armed robbery charges and guilty homicide, punishable crimes under sections 221 and 298 of the Criminal Code.
Adefolalu was brutally murdered on October 28, 2023, only 26 days after Affekafe resumed work as a maid at his home in Gbaiko, Minna.
According to the findings of the Court, the adolescent conspired with two accomplices, identified as DJ Wallex and DJ Smart, who are still released, to attack and kill the teacher after he was fired from his position to steal.
Delivering the sentence, Judge Mohammed ruled that the Prosecutor's Office had demonstrated its case beyond reasonable doubt. “The death of Dr. Mrs. Funmilayo Sherifat Adefolalu was caused by the convict with her friends, now in general, when they used knives to stab her several times and finally hit her with a wooden stool to kill her,” said the judge.
The convict, who was presented to the house by a local shepherd, confessed during the interrogation that planned revenge after being fired.
She and her accomplices entered the house, attacked the teacher with knives and used a wooden stool to give the fatal blow. They also stole two phones, a laptop and foreign coins of the residence.
Judge Mohammed issued the life imprisonment after a two -hour ruling, approaching one of the most impressive homicides of the State in recent years.
