A young inmate recently escaped a prison in Lyon, France, taking advantage of the release of a inmate partner, hidden in his luggage and waiting to be carried out from the maximum security installation, the French media reported.
The escape of Elyazid A., 20, from the prison of Lyon-Corbas two Friday was the owner of the national headlines, questioning both the prison security system and its notorious overcrowding.
But what really caught the public’s attention was the way the inmate, who was serving several prison sentences for organized crimes, managed to escape the effort of the maximum security prison.
According to internal sources cited by the French media, the daring escape was possible thanks to the release of a fellow inmate who simply took Elyazid to the main door of the installation to a car that expected it. The guards took 24 hours to realize that it was missing.
“This is an extremely rare event that we have never experienced in this administration and that clearly reveals a complete series of serious dysfunctions,” said the director of the French prison administration to the press, recognizing an “accumulation of errors.”
Although the complete details of the escape of Elyazid A. have not yet been made public, the interior sources revealed that the inmate hid in a “visiting bag”, a large canvas bag used by the inmates to carry their belongings when they launch.
For some reason, the big bag of the released prisoner did not attract the attention of the guard, and neither did the fact that he requested a cart that filmed his heavy bag to the car waiting for him.

Twny four hours after Elyazid A., the French authorities launched a national chest that ended with their arrest last weekend.
The 20-year-old escape was arrested while leaving a warehouse in Sathonay-Camp, north of Lyon, about 25 minutes by car from Corbas prison.
His alleged accomplice, who now runs the risk of returning to prison despite having fulfilled his time, was not with him and is still being hunted by the police.
