A woman, Gbemisola Oladepo has been arrested by the command of the Nigeria Xi Osogbo police area for allegedly abusing physically her five -year -old niece.
Confirming the arrest on Monday, in Osoagbo, the Public Relations officer of the Police Command of the XI Zone, Ade Ogunyemi, revealed to Daily Post that Oladepo has been arrested and detained.
Ogunyemi said: “Yes, a case that involved the physical abuse of a five -year -old girl was made in our office and the suspect in question was invited to interrogate.
“It was later arrested and is still in detention and will be accused of courts soon.”
Daily Post had previously met Monsurat Oluwatoyin Ibrahim, executive director of the Monsurat Ajoke Foundation, in a statement that the child lost his father five years ago and was put in the care of his aunt, Gbemisola Oladepo.
Ibrahim said: “On Saturday, August 22, 2021, the Monsurat Ajoke Foundation received a painful report on a heartbreaking case of child abuse in the state of Osun.
“A 5 -year -old girl who lost her father years ago and was put in the care of her aunt, Mrs. Gbemisola Oladepo was brutally abused. The girl was found with several bruises and wounds throughout her body after a continuous physical, emotional and verbal abuse.”
By adding that the girl has been rescued and admitted to the hospital to obtain more medical attention, he added that the case is a sad reminder that too many children, especially orphans and those who live with relatives, suffer silently in the hands of those who should protect them.
“Now she has been rescued and admitted to the Teaching Hospital of OSun State University for urgent medical care.”

She appealed to mothers and women to take care of the children with whom they are entrusted and accused the members of the community so that they do not remain silent in the face of abuse.
“Every child, whether yours by birth or entrusts you, deserves love, dignity and protection.
“No situation or difficulties justifies a child’s abuse. If you cannot take care of a child, seek help, not destroy an innocent life.
“Do not stay silent when I witness abuse. He speaks and informs immediately.
“Supporting families fighting with the care of children, especially widows, single parents or elderly tutors,” he concluded.
Ibrahim also praised Sekinat Temilade Halid, special advisor to Governor Adela Adelek on matters of women, children and social welfare for their role and rapid intervention in the management of the case.
