Before the general elections of 2027, the national attached leader of the Congress of all the progressives (APC), Zainab Ibrahim, has requested an pairing agreement that guarantees that the party becomes the female candidates as companions in the governor’s careers, insisting that men should be declared inexpensive for the governor victim swallowed.
Ibrahim made the suggestion on the weekend while talking with journalists in Abuja.
He pointed out that the agreement that will prevent the male people of challenging the seats of vice presidents, vice governors and vice president positions have been adopted by some countries.
She argued that if her party had adopted the formula, there would have been 24 governor women in those states under the ruling party.
Ibrahim declared that, apart from the defense of the special seats, his office also cries out for the twinning formula.
“In addition to the special defense of the seats we are undertaking, we are also strongly defending for twinning. The twinning does not even require any National Assembly (legislation). It requires nothing. It is just a policy of a political party.
“Let me tell you where I got that. It was in New York in 2016. I was at a conference and I met the Vice President of Gambia who was a woman and asked him, Gambia is an Islamic country as he is a vice president?
“Then, you see, it is just a policy pronouncement by the party and then it becomes. Now, if my party, APC should adopt the twinning formula, we have 24 APC controls of the states, we would have had 24 attached governors.
“Then, for me, the lowest pendant fruit for the inclusion of women in politics is the twinning formula and we are working hard on it. You know, the Special Seating Law will have a legislative support at the end of the day, but when a party formulates a formula, it is subject to changes and that is why we are paying more attention to the Special Square Law.
“But we are also doing a very high level defense for the twinning formula because the countries that have reached up to 50% and more as Namibia, Rwanda adopted the twinning formula … By the grace of God, it can even be achieved faster than the Special Seating Law Project.
“Now, we have some states that have already adopted that, such as when Yahaya Bello was governor in Kogi, all the presidents of the local government, the vice presidents were women. That is what we call twinning formula. Now we are waiting for them to become a policy especially of the main political parties in Nigeria who have a large number of states that control,” Ibrahim said.
She declared that when the formula is achieved, it will be a criterion for whom women will support in the subsequent elections.
“All the governors who tell us, number one, their deputy will be a woman, every vice president of the local government is going to be a woman. What else do we want from any governor, instead of giving our support 100%?
“I think Mr. President, sooner or later, will adopt it for us and see how every Nigerian woman will support Mr. President, by the grace of God.”
The attached leader of the National APC also revealed that, for the virtue of her position as the National Secretary of the Interparto Advisory Council (IPAC), the body of all the political parties recorded in Nigeria, is also charged with the responsibility of promoting the interest of women beyond their party platform.
“I also head the Directorate of Women created by IPAC. IPAC has three directions, women, youth and people with disabilities. I direct the IPAC Women’s Directorate. Therefore, my relationship is not only with Women of APC. No, I deal with each member of the party category that is a woman in Nigeria.
“According to my direction, I have the 19 National Leaders of Women and under them, we have the 37 women state leaders. Under them, it has been reduced to the level of the unit. Therefore, my relationship is not only with the leaders of the state women of APC. I deal with all the leaders of women of all political parties, and we are working hand in hand.”
