The governor of the state of Kano, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has reaffirmed his commitment to strengthen the Government to support a bill that will grant full autonomy to the local government councils in the state.
The governor provided his support while presiding over the 31st Meeting of the Executive Council in the Annex of the Chamber of Government Representatives in the city of Kwankwasiyya, where the Council approved the transmission of the bill to the Chamber of the State Assembly for its legislative consideration.
This was contained in a statement issued by Governor’s spokesman Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Friday.
According to him, giving full LG autonomy would allow the advice to manage their resources directly, execute projects without unnecessary delays and make decisions that reflect the needs of their communities.
Governor Yusuf explained that the proposed law seeks to train the 44 local government councils in Kano with financial and administrative independence.
He added that the autonomy of the local government was essential for good governance, responsibility and acceleration of development in the bases, describing movement as a necessary step to deepen democracy in the state.
The governor expressed his confidence that the members of the State Assembly Chamber would support the bill, noting that he aligned with the general interest of the people of Kano.
