One of the best police officers of the Police of the State of Plateau, identified as Inspector Laare Jeremiah, has been killed by a mafia after a suspect he arrested raised a false alarm claiming that the officer was a motorcycle thief.
According to the spokesman for the command, the DSP Albo Alfred, the inspector Jeremiah, who was attached to the Criminal Investigation Department, had received the mandate to arrest a suspect criminal, Audu Abdullahi, who had been terrifying the residents of the community of Nyakala in the area of ​​the local government of the State.
During the course of the arrest, the suspect allegedly gave an alarm that Inspector Jeremiah, who went to make the arrest together with another police officer, was a motorcycle thief, which led to a mafia descended on them and hit them to a pulp.
DSP Alfred, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Friday, said the incident occurred on Wednesday, September 10, 2025.
When clarifying the incident, the police spokesman said that, unlike the previous news that the victims were alleged motorcycle thieves, one was a police officer.
Speaking about the incident, the police spokesman said:
“On September 10, 2025, the detectives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) were investigating a petition against an Audu Abdullahi, a resident of Kishika Village, Bassa.
“During the investigation, the detectives saw the suspect who mounted a motorcycle along the Binchi village and followed it to the Nyakala village, where they intercepted it.
“However, the suspect gave a false alarm, claiming that the officers were motorcycle thieves, which led a mafia to attack one of our officers, Inspector Laare Jeremiah.”
Albo said that when the mafia realized her mistake, they turned against the suspect, attacking him aggressively. He pointed out that both the officer and the suspect were transferred to the Cottage Hospital in Kisalloi, Bassa, where the officer succumbed to his wounds while receiving treatment.
“The suspect was referred to the Teaching Hospital of the University of Jos, where he later died,” he said, adding that the incident is currently under investigation by the state Cid in Jos, while the state police commissioner, Emmanuel Olugbemiga Adesina, has expressed his pain for the incident and has warned against the actions of the mafia.
