Two people lost their lives in a gas accident and fired in the village of Pasa on the Highway Ilorin -jebba, local government area of the state of Kwara, on Tuesday.
The deceased were identified as the oil driver and his engine.
The tragic incident occurred around 3:43 pm when the petrol oil tanker, with the registration number NSR 966 ZQ, which transported 30,000 liters of gasoline, it was reported that it lost control, deviated from the road and overturned, turned on a mass fire.
According to a statement from the state firewater service spokesman Hassan Adekunle, in Ilorin on Tuesday: “Emergency teams arrived promptly and extinguished the fire, avoiding greater propagation to nearby traffic.
“Unfortunately, the driver and the engine lost their lives immediately at the accident scene.”
The director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, was sympathizing with the families of the deceased and advised all the users of the road, particularly to the pilots of the tankers, who exercised the highest level of caution on the roads.
He emphasized the need for regular maintenance of the vehicle, strict adherence to speed limits, avoids night travel when possible and adequate break so that drivers avoid accidents related to fatigue.
The director also urged motorists to always maintain fire extinguishers in their vehicles and immediately inform the fire service for timely intervention.
