Togolés driver arrested for driving recklessly in Lagos

The traffic management authority of the state of Lagos, Lastma, has confirmed the arrest of a Togolés driver who caused a high -speed accident that left a pedestrian wounded critically at the intersection of Adeniji Adele, Ilubirin Interior on Lagos Island.

In a statement on Monday, Adebayo Taofiq, director of Public Affairs and Lighting in Lastma, said the accident occurred when the driver of a Mazda car with the EPE 749 GS registration number, according to the reports, was traveling at an illegal speed.

The motorist lost control of the vehicle and got into a pedestrian who tried to cross the road, leaving the victim with serious injuries and strong bleeding.

The eye witnesses said the driver tried to escape after the collision, but was quickly intercepted and arrested by Lastma’s officers. He was later delivered to the Adeniji Adele Police Division for investigation and possible prosecution.

The emergency responders of the ambulance service of the state of Lagos, Lasambus, were immediately notified and transported to the pedestrian injured to the General Hospital, Odan, Lagos Island, where the victim is receiving urgent medical care.

The General Manager of Lastma, Mr. Olekan Bakare-Oki, condemned the reckless behavior that led to the accident, describing speeding as one of the most dangerous causes of road accidents avoidable in the state.

“Motorists must exercise restriction and strictly comply with traffic regulations to safeguard lives and properties,” Bakare-Oki said.
