A upper water tank containing thousands of liters of water has exploded, hurting several families in the local government of Malam Madori of the Jigawa state.
This was confirmed in a statement issued by Musa Muhammad, information officer of the areas of the local government of Malam Madori and Kaugama.
He said that the incident, which occurred at midnight on Thursday, took place near the railway line in Shirinya Quarters.
According to the statement, the powerful explosion of the burst tank caused injuries to residents who lived near the water station.
The victims are receiving treatment at the Malam Madori General Hospital, and deaths have not been reported.
The upper tank for years served as an important source of water supply for residents of Shirinya rooms and neighboring communities.
A community member, who spoke under anonymity, revealed that the tank had required repairs for a long time. He added that local residents had formed a committee responsible for collecting users’ funds to maintain installation.
In reaction to the incident, the president of the local government of Malam Madori, Salisu Sani Garungabas, said that urgent measures would be taken to restore water installation and ensure that the community continues to benefit from it.
He also sympathized with affected families and promised the support of the Council for recovery.
