The Kwara state firefighters on Wednesday recovered a lifeless body in the ASA River in Ilorin.
The victim was identified as a person with mental disabilities.
Firefighters discovered the body around 11:06 on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, on the ASA river along Emir’s Road, Ilorin, according to a statement on Wednesday, October 8, 2025 of the Fire spokesman, Hassan Adekunle in Ilorin.
“The victim, identified as a person with mental disabilities, was found floating in the river.
“The cause of drowning could not be determined immediately.
“The recovered body was subsequently delivered to the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Environment to take the necessary measures,” adds the statement.
The director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Faleade John Olumuyiwa, expressed his solidarity for the unfortunate incident and advised the public to have caution and avoid risky movements around the banks of the rivers and other bodies of water to avoid similar events.
