The Niger State Police Command has arrested four suspects in connection with a series of motorcycle thefts across the state.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the arrests and detailed how officers located the suspects in separate operations.
According to Abiodun, the first incident occurred on October 3, 2025, at around 9 pm, when a resident, Michael Isah, 23, of BYJ area, Kwamba, allegedly fled with his friend’s TVS motorcycle with registration number ABJ 402 MV, valued at over £1 million.
Police officers attached to the Maje Division were immediately alerted and the next day, October 4, at around 11:30 am, officers recovered the stolen motorcycle from Abubakar Sadiq Mutawakil of Kwamba, who was reportedly looking for a buyer for it.
“He was immediately arrested and confessed to the crime, which led to the arrest of the main suspect, Michael Isah, who handed over the motorcycle to him to dispose of,” Abiodun said.
In a separate operation, on October 2, 2025, at about 4:30 pm, officers attached to Bida ‘A’ Division, arrested Adamu Mohammed, 23, of Masaba area of Bida, with a TVS motorcycle (GWA 346 VZ) suspected to have been stolen.
“During interrogation, the suspect confessed that he stole the motorcycle from Ndasako village in Wushishi Local Government Area.
“The rightful owner was contacted and the theft was confirmed. The suspect has since been charged to court,” the PPRO said.
On the same day, at around 8am, operatives of the Katcha Division arrested one Abubakar Mohammed of Gudungu village via Agaie while he was riding an unregistered and keyless Bajaj motorcycle on the Agaie-Katcha road.
“He confessed to stealing the motorcycle in the Cheche village of Katcha. The case is still under investigation,” Abiodun added.
The police spokesperson assured the public that all suspects will be prosecuted once investigations are completed.
