Jeriel Clifford Peter, a 71-year-old man, has been arrested for allegedly killing his 67-year-old wife, Miltha Jeriel.
The Adamawa State Police Command arrested the man after he allegedly beat his wife to death during a dispute in Demsa Local Government Area.
A statement by the image maker of the Adamawa State Command of the Nigeria Police, SP Sulaiman Nguroje, said the incident occurred on Thursday, November 6, 2025, after a misunderstanding at a bar led to violence.
Nguroje explained that during the altercation, the suspect allegedly hit the wife several times with a knife and an axe.
“Upon receiving a distress call, police officers led by Divisional Police Officer Demsa quickly arrived at the scene,” Nguroje said, adding that the victim was rushed to hospital but died while receiving treatment.
“His body has been deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy,” police PPRO said.
Nguroje said the suspect was immediately detained and the weapons used in the attack, a knife and an axe, were recovered as evidence.
Condemning the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, described the act as inhumane and directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yola, to take up the case and ensure thorough investigation and prosecution.
