Five police officers were reportedly killed and two others injured following an ambush by suspected bandits in Sabon Sara village, Darazo Local Government Area of Bauchi State on Sunday, November 22, 2025.
The incident occurred at around 12:40 pm when a tactical team comprising personnel from the Rapid Response Squad, Mobile Police 10 PMF Bauchi, Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU) and State Intelligence Department (SID) were ambushed by unidentified assailants while they were on a visibility patrol aimed at preventing and managing conflicts between farmers and herdsmen in the area.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the command’s spokesperson, CSP Ahmed Muhammed Wakil, confirmed the deaths of DSP Ahmad Muhammad (SID), ASP Mustapha Muhammad (10 PMF), Inspector Amarhel Yunusa (10 PMF), Inspector Idris Ahmed (10 PMF) and Corporal Isah Muazu (AKU).
CSP Wakil added that two other officers, Inspector Isah Musa (SID) and Inspector Yusuf Gambo (SID), sustained injuries of varying degrees and were immediately evacuated to Darazo General Hospital for treatment.
“The Divisional Police Officer, SP Auwalu Ilu, led reinforcements to the scene to rescue and evacuate both injured and deceased personnel. The remains of the fallen officers have been deposited at the mortuary, while the injured are receiving medical attention,” CSP Wakil said.
He further stated that efforts are being made to locate and arrest the perpetrators, assuring the public that the command is committed to bringing those responsible for this heinous act to justice.
Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu visited the scene to assess the situation and commiserate with the families of the deceased officers, pledging that the Bauchi State Police Command would continue to fulfill its mandate of protecting lives and property.
CSP Wakil concluded: “The task has not been easy, but the Command remains fierce, tireless and relentless in its commitment to ensuring the security of the people of Bauchi State.”
