Popular disc jockey and producer Imohiosen Patrick, widely known as DJ Neptune, has spoken out on the treatment of veteran creatives in the Nigerian music industry, saying many OGs are increasingly being left out.
In an interview with Hip TV, the artist noted that once artists reach certain milestones, they are often pushed aside.
He described the pattern as a structural flaw, noting that in Western industries, veterans continue to thrive alongside startups.
He said: “In Nigeria, once you reach a certain level, they push you aside like, ‘Hey, go to that corner, we’re done with you’. It’s a structural problem. Overseas, OGs are still as relevant as rookies. We need to address the structural problems.”
Speaking of his own longevity in the industry, DJ Neptune explained: “Although I don’t plan on doing this my whole life when the time comes to take a bow, I will. But what I’ve just done over the years is that I know when it’s time to reinvent. That’s life. Things are changing, so you need to move with the times.”
