Tension is rising in Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State following the killing of Alhaji Ibrahim Nagode, father of a wanted bandit leader, during an operation by Civilian Joint Task Force personnel.
Nagode, 60, lived in Na’alma village and was the father of Haruna Ibrahim, widely known as Fada.
Sources told Zagazola Makama that the shooting occurred when Fada was returning to the village after a recently negotiated peace agreement between bandits and communities in the area.
Security officials said the town had been on edge after intelligence indicated that armed bandits were regrouping nearby.
Joint troops had been deployed to intensify patrols and prevent possible attacks, but the operation ended with Nagode shot dead.
The Department of State Services has since detained all CJTF personnel involved.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, fearing that the killing could trigger retaliation and destabilize the fragile truce.
The sources stressed the need to maintain dialogue and respect existing peace agreements to avoid further violence. Law enforcement officials have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity in their communities.
