Eight family members die when a vehicle falls into the Benue River

A devastating tragedy struck Benue State after eight members of the Kyégh family lost their lives when the vehicle carrying them veered off the road and plunged into the Dura River in Kwande Local Government Area.

The victims were reportedly traveling to make burial arrangements when the accident occurred, leaving their community in deep grief.

The heartbreaking incident has sparked solidarity, particularly from the Chief Executive of Vandeikya Local Government, Hon. Dennis Terkura Guda, who described the event as “a heartbreaking tragedy that has plunged the entire Vandeikya local government into deep mourning.”

Moved by the magnitude of the loss, the Hon. Guda stepped in to support the grieving family.

He paid all outstanding mortuary bills and provided eight coffins to ensure the deceased rested in dignity.

The President offered prayers for the Kyégh family, asking God to strengthen them in this painful time and grant eternal rest to the deceased.

He further assured the grieving family members that the Vandeikya local government would not abandon them in their time of distress.

“No family deserves to go through such an unimaginable tragedy alone. We are one people and their pain is our pain,” he said.
