Some residents of Agric-olope area of Ado Ekiti are appealing to Governor Oyebanji for urgent help after the roof of a public school in the area, St. Francis Catholic Nursery and Primary School, damaged its buildings after it was blown down during a storm.
The incident that occurred during a heavy downpour on Sunday affected four buildings, leaving their owners helpless.
The victims confirmed that all efforts to obtain government support have been unsuccessful as government officials in all places visited, including the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, claimed that this was a natural disaster and therefore they had to bear the damages.
Two women whose homes were severely affected explained that apart from the roof, all their appliances, documents and other valuables were soaked by the water that entered the house through the damaged roof.
“The rain destroyed not only our roof but also our windows. We are fighting to survive and we don’t know where to start,” said one of the women.
The victims have called on the Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, to intervene and provide them with support to cushion the cost of fixing their properties.
Our correspondent’s investigation, confirmed by some members of the community, shows that the destroyed school had just been inaugurated in 2023, but it is suspected that the construction materials were not of quality.
