The Enugu State Police Command arrested 52 suspects, recovered gun ammunition and rescued three victims kidnapped between January 24 and 30.
This was contained in the weekly crime statistics released by the Command spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, on Saturday in Enugu.
Ndukwe said those detained include three armed robbery suspects, 12 kidnapping suspects and three people linked to homicide.
He said police also arrested two suspects in connection with rape and desecration, four suspected cultists and 28 other people.
According to him, the suspects were arrested for various crimes allegedly committed in different parts of the state.
“The command also recovered a firearm, 20 rounds of ammunition of different calibers and six stolen vehicles.
“Three kidnapped victims were rescued during sustained intelligence-led operations in the week under review.
“Other items recovered included hard drugs and a significant quantity of weed suspected to be Indian hemp, reflecting the intensifying crackdown on drug crime across the state,” he said.
Ndukwe attributed the operational success to the commitment of police personnel, improved intelligence gathering and effective collaboration with other security agencies and members of the public.
He assured residents of the police’s continued determination to sustain the fight against crime and maintain public safety in the state.
Ndukwe urged citizens to support law enforcement agencies, especially the police, with timely and credible information to enhance proactive policing and rapid response to criminal activities.
