Two residents rescued alive from collapsed building in Abuja

Two residents were on Friday rescued from the rubble of a collapsed single-storey building in the Kubwa area of ​​the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja.

This was confirmed in a statement by the Head of Media and Public Relations of the Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Department, FEMD, Nkechi Isa.

Isa noted that the victims are currently receiving treatment at the Kubwa General Hospital where they remain in a stable condition.

He explained that the victims were initially trapped on the ground floor of the residential building when the right segment of the structure collapsed, adding that the affected building comprises six residential blocks, and other occupants of the building were outside at the time of the incident.

Nkechi noted that the FEMD received a distress call and quickly mobilized to the scene and successfully extracted the trapped victims.

According to her, although the two residents were rescued alive without fatalities, the collapse caused significant losses of personal effects and household belongings, she added.

He added that the Development Control Department and the FCT Police Command also responded to the incident to secure the area and initiate investigations into the structural failure.
