One person died while several houses were destroyed following a heavy downpour accompanied by strong winds in Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The incident occurred on the night of Monday, September 7, 2026, between 11:30 p.m. and midnight.
The incident affected parts of the town of Shanga, ‘Yar Besse and some surrounding communities, leaving several residents with damaged homes and property.
The development was revealed in a statement issued on Tuesday by Abubakar Aliyu Shanga, Special Adviser to the Governor of Kebbi State on New Media.

According to the statement, heavy rain and strong winds caused significant destruction in the affected communities, including the collapse of several homes and the loss of property.
Following the incident, the Chairman of Shanga Local Government Area, Abdullahi Abdullahi Mai Anguwa, visited the affected areas to assess the extent of the damage.
The council chairman is expected to submit a report on the situation to the governor of Kebbi State.
