… urge other MDA to emulate
The Senate has praised independent corrupt practices and other related crimes commissions (ICPC) for demonstrating a clear commitment to equity, equity and national representation in their appointments and promotions.
The Commission of Economic and Financial Crimes (EFCC) was also praised for its constant adhesion to the principles of the federal nature in the composition of its workforce and distribution of positions within the organization.
This recognition was granted on Wednesday at the National Assembly in Abuja by the president of the Senate Committee on Federal Character and Intergovernmental Affairs, Senator Allwell Onyesah, during the appearance of the president of ICPC, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu and his management team before the Committee to present the profile of the commission staff and the deployment statistics.
Speaking after the presentation, Senator Onyesah expressed a deep satisfaction with the transparency and inclusive practices of the commission.
He urged other ministries, departments and agencies (MDA) to emulate the appointments in the ICPC exemplary model.
In his words, “ICPC has shown that due process is not only possible but can also achieve. What has presented today gives us the hope that we still have institutions and individuals committed to building a better Nigeria.
“You have honored this institution when you are open and transparent on how it carries out appointments and elevates officers to high positions.”
Onyesoh regretted that several MDA deliberately avoid appearing before the committee, largely due to the lack of transparency and bad compliance with federal requirements.
He also noted that many of those who have appeared before the Committee has not met basic expectations, contrasting them with the excellent performance of the ICPC.
The senator went further: “Every time we found challenges with any MDA regarding the fulfillment of the principles of federal nature, we will lead you so that they can learn from your example.
“I am very satisfied with the level of openness and responsibility that ICPC has shown today. It is really worthy of emulation.”
Other members of the committee also praised the ICPC, noting that the commission has distinguished maintaining a balanced and transparent workforce.
They described the nominal distribution of nominal labor of the ICPC in the six geopolitical zones as incomparable among government institutions.
Presenting the commission personnel statistics, the president of ICPC, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, revealed that the commission currently has 1,163 staff members, distributed in a quite distributed manner in the six geopolitical areas as follows: North Central – 19%, Northwest – 19%, Northeast – 16%, South, South – 16%, South West – 16%and South East – 14%.
The president of ICPC also revealed that the Commission has ten directors who supervise its various departments, with nine substantive directors and one in capacity for action, also equally distributed in the six zones.
Aliyu said: “The Commission, such as the Nigeria's main anti-unjustrote agency, is proud to practice what preaches. We are totally committed to maintaining all existing rules and regulations, including the Federal Balance Index, and the Federal Commission of character repeatedly praises us for our constant compliance.”
He reaffirmed the dedication of the commission to promote equity and inclusion, pointing out that these values ​​are fundamental for their mandate to promote integrity and good governance in Nigeria.
